This week’s New Celebrity, Joseph Padilla, has built his career on his passion for fitness. Before his success on Telemundo’s Exatlon Estados Unidos, Joe served as a program director at the YMCA. Teaching group exercises classes and one-on-one training has taught him that everyone starts somewhere! He encourages people to start their fitness journey with simple, fun exercises that help them stay consistent and committed. Joseph Padilla shared with New Celebrity a few of his favorite workouts that anyone can try. Try these simple exercises and watch yourself become the next fitness influencer!
Try adding a sandbag to your routine. Joseph Padilla believes that everyone starting their fitness journey should take advantage of functional training. You don’t have to do it for too long, depending on your goals. Joe broke it down by describing that if you select 5 workouts (i.e. squats, bicep curls, power cleans, walking lunges, or throwing the bag over your back) and do them for 5 minutes, you get a 25-minute intense full-body workout.
Leg Press/Leg Extension
If you’re trying to get a workout in on your lazy day, Joe Padilla recommends hitting the leg press/leg extension. It’s the perfect way to exercise your leg muscles while sitting comfortably. However, he will make up for this workout by going extra hard somewhere else! If you decide to take it easy for a majority of your workout, choose your favorite exercise and commit to it 100%.
Hit the Treadmill
Joe likes to finish off his workout strong with a great run or a hike. If you have taken your day pretty slow, sprint on the treadmill for a few minutes and get your heart rate up. You could also try hiking on the treadmill’s highest incline. It brings the same results to your glutes as speed walking uphill!
Try Biking, Hiking, or Rock Climbing
For those of us who would rather be anywhere but a gym, Joe has the answer for you too! If you enjoy being outdoors and trying something different, try one of Joe’s favorite activities, biking, hiking, or rock climbing. “It’s a really challenging activity to do but it’s really fun once you get the hang of it.” These activities are great for all shapes and sizes to stay active! Joseph even recommends indoor bouldering gyms!
“Sometimes when you take those lazy days or sleep in, there is going to be someone else working hard than you; like your competitor, rival, or someone that wants to be in the same shoes as you. That person may be out there doing it, do you really want to gamble that?” Earn your lazy days by staying consistent. Try these exercises and let us know how you feel! If you need more guidance, Joe wants to make himself available to his followers, message him for training advice. Keep in mind that everyone starts somewhere, so don’t get caught up in looking picture perfect! “It shouldn’t always be edited and [made to] look really really pretty.”
