Discovering your brand and expand on it
Discovering your brand as an aspiring influencer is important because it is what differentiates you from the competition to win over your audience. To do so, you must first evaluate your passions and skills. FurilloStar knew that his passion was for the entertainment industry as a whole but wanted to hone in on what really got his creative juices flowing. “I wanted my social media to be all about the music because that’s what I’m all about, with some fashion and fun thrown in there. I want people to know who I am and what I do when they see my page.”
Create a posting schedule that works for you
When it comes to posting on social media, you don’t want to lose sight of the bigger picture. You want to make sure that your audience is consistently engaged. This means planning out and sticking to a well-thought-out social media schedule centered on the content you know your audience wants to see. “I post on Instagram at least twice a day, sometimes three. I will post at least five personal things and five career things on my story. When it comes to TikTok, I love it, I can’t get away from it. I post there about three times a week.”
Decide how to inform your audience
Now that you have a posting schedule, it’s time to figure out what to post. The goal is to gain as much engagement from your audience as possible. When you have important announcements or want to spark conversation with your followers, communicate with them in ways they will engage with. “Favorite way to make an announcement is an Instagram post. I’ll put the information in the actual post but also in the caption because sometimes people don’t read what is in the post or on a flyer, they just look at the graphics. It helps if you’re more personal in your caption as well.”
Don’t focus on the numbers
It’s easy to get wrapped up in how many likes or views your posts are getting, and although that is important when it comes to tracking engagement, FurilloStar points out that the most important thing is figuring out your brand first. “Figure out your branding first, don’t focus on likes and views because that can make you insecure. You have to grow and knowing your brand is what’s going to help you grow because that’s how you’re going to attract people.”
Find your tribe
Being an influencer is not an easy job and there will always be people looking for you to fail. This is why it is important to surround yourself with people who love and support you. “Find your tribe. Find like-minded people then you will see the numbers go up. The beauty of social media is you’re able to find those people.”
